Biography - ELLIOT ISIBOR FOR NEW JERSEY SENATE CANDIDATE
26TH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT
He is a successful family man, a professor, a businessman, a philanthropist, and a long time resident of Rockaway Township in Morris County, New Jersey. Coming from a family of eight he was, and is, determined to better himself and the community-at-large.
He attended The State University of New York at Fredonia with a double major and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. In addition, he attended Long Island University, from where he received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
His first employment incorporated his business training with his natural desire to help others. He became employed in the special service department at Integrity House, a leading not-for-profit organization in the field of substance abuse rehabilitation.
He remained at Integrity House for about eight years before he was approached by The City of Newark to become the Director of its Multi-Phasic Rehabilitation Center, which offered diversified approach to dealing with the substance abuse treatment facing the City at that time.
Following this, he designed a program to work with New Jersey Department of Human Services where his agency contracted with the Division of Youth and Family Services to house and assist young adults becoming productive citizens. After eighteen years of successful service he transformed this program into a dynamic emergency center offering housing for the homeless population of Essex County, New Jersey.
He is also currently employed as an Adjunct Professor in the Business Division at Essex County Community College (Main Campus) in Newark New Jersey.
He is, at present, the father of six adult children. His wife holds a Master’s Degree and is employed by the Newark Board of Education as a Mathematics teacher in the Special Education Department.
As a former member of the Irvington Township, New Jersey Board of Education and its Vice-President, he served on various committees in which he introduced new initiatives to improve the academic performance/standards of education, including fiscal responsibility, accountability, transparency and funding/grants. His assignment on the school board included the school’s budget, building & grounds, personnel and community relations, where he was instrumental in the successful completion of three new school buildings. Working together with board members, the school administration, businesses and the community at-large he was able to successfully turn the school budget deficit in to a surplus.
Always looking for new challenges, Elliot became President of several community-based non-profit organizations.
He was a candidate in the 2010 Morris County Board of Freeholders Election, received approximately 40, 0000 votes;
He has continued to exercise community-organizing efforts and has received several recognitions, including; The National School Board Association for Commitment to Education and Service;
He received The African American Heritage Committee’s Volunteerism Award given for his Record of Selfless Service, Compassion and Commitment to uplifting those struggling and disenfranchised members of the community;
He received The Irvington Board of Education Award for record of Commitment, Dedication and Contribution to the Board of Education;
Named in Who’s Who Among American Professionals;’ Outstanding Young Men of America for Outstanding Achievement, Superior Leadership & Exceptional Service; and
Recognition from the Center for Urban Education for Substantive Contribution & Commitment to Excellence.
